The Great Fire of Edo in 1829 (Bunsei 12). It started in a lumber shed on the Kanda Sakumacho Riverbank (now Chiyoda Ward), and spread to the Nihonbashi, Kyobashi, and Shiba areas. It is also known as the Sakumacho Fire. The Sakumacho area was home to many lumber and firewood merchants, and was nicknamed Kanda Zaimokucho. It was also called Devil's Town because of the many fires that occurred there. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
