Bunsei Temple and Shrine Town Writings

Japanese: 文政寺社町方書上 - ぶんせいじしゃまちかたかきあげ

This is a survey book that the Edo Shogunate had Edo towns and temples and shrines write up in 1825-28 (Bunsei 8-11) about the origins of each town, temple and shrine. There were 121 books by the temple and shrine departments and 146 books by the town departments. The Shogunate began compiling the Gofunai Fudoki in 1826 (completed in 1829 but burned down in 1872, the collection of materials that survived the disaster was the Gofunai Chokyu), and had the books submitted as historical materials. The contents are detailed, but only cover the areas outside the baileys, and do not include areas inside the baileys such as Nihonbashi, Kyobashi, Uchikanda, and Kojimachi. [Minami Kazuo]

1825‐28年(文政8‐11)に江戸幕府が江戸の町々および寺社から，それぞれの町や寺社の由来などについて書き出させた調査書。寺社方121冊，町方146冊。幕府は1826年《御府内風土記》の編纂を始め(1829年完成したが72年に焼失，その際災いを免れた資料集が《御府内備考》)，その史料として提出させたものである。内容は詳細であるが曲輪外の地域のみで，曲輪内の日本橋，京橋，内神田，麴町などを欠く。【南和男】
