Princess Fuwa - Princess Fuwa

Japanese:
Princess Fuwa - Princess Fuwa
Year of birth: Unknown
An 8th century princess. Daughter of Emperor Shomu and his wife, Inukai no Sukune Hirotoji. Younger sister of Princess Inoue and Prince Asaka. Possibly born around 730. Wife of Prince Shioyaki and gave birth to Shikeshimaro, Kawatsugu (maybe the same person), and Yoho. The year of their marriage is unknown, but considering that it was around the end of the Tenpyo period (746-48) after Prince Shioyaki returned to Kyoto from exile in Izu, the ages of the people involved are not unreasonable. In any case, there was a considerable age difference between her and Prince Shioyaki, and this marriage was likely decided by forces other than Princess Fuwa's own will. Was her promotion from Munen to Yonen in 763 due to her husband, Prince Shioyaki, teaming up with Fujiwara no Nakamaro? In the following year, her husband was executed in the Nakamaro Rebellion, but because Fuwa was the daughter of Princess Shomu, her title of Imperial Princess was merely removed, and her son was spared from any implicature due to being his mother. However, five years later, in the Emperor Shōtoku Sadō Incident, she was renamed Kushiya no Masahito Kushiya, given 40 hectares of land and 10 cho of rice fields, exiled from the capital, and her son was exiled to Tosa Province. It was later discovered that the accusation was false, and she was restored to the Imperial Princess register. She was later promoted to the second rank, but in 782, she was implicated in an attempted coup d'état by her son Kawatsugu, and exiled to Awaji Province with Kawatsugu's sister (possibly Hikami no Masahito Yohko). In 783, she was transferred to Izumi Province, but perhaps she died there, as her name does not appear when Kawatsugu's crimes were pardoned in 784.
