European Monetary Union : Economic and monetary integration of the EU (European Union). Based on the EMS (European Monetary System), it aims to achieve economic and financial integration in three stages: participation of all EU member states in the EMS, establishment of a European Central Bank, and issuance of a single currency. It was launched in 1992.
