Solanaceae (APG classification: Solanaceae). Also known as Thairin Magaribana. A semi-shrub native to Colombia, it is treated as an annual in horticulture. The plant branches from the base and tends to fall over as it grows, so it is best planted in a hanging pot or planter. It flowers for a long time from summer to autumn, with many flowers blooming in each axil of each branch. The flowers are pale purple and 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter. There are also varieties with blue and white flowers. It is propagated from seed, with seeds sown in early to mid-April and grown in frames. For greenhouse cultivation, it is sown in February and blooms in June. It prefers well-drained, humus-rich soil, and the seeds are small, so be careful not to sow them too thickly.
