Bourguiba
Tunisian politician. He joined the Dostoire Party at a young age. After studying in France, he formed the New Dostoire Party in 1934 and led the independence movement. He became prime minister at the same time as independence was achieved in 1956, became the first president after overthrowing the monarchy in 1957, and became president for life in 1975. He established the Bourguiba regime based on the one-party system of the New Dostoire Party, and was at the center of national power for 30 years, but was ousted in 1987.
