Fleet Street - Fleet Street

This is the newspaper district of London, the capital of the United Kingdom. It is said to be as old as the history of printing, and most of the UK's national and local newspapers have their headquarters or branches in this area. Located on the western edge of the City, the street's name comes from the River Fleet, which still flows through the area, although it has been covered up. Old buildings such as taverns and churches from the 17th century remain, and Child's Bank at the first street claims to be the oldest bank in London.

イギリスの首都ロンドンの新聞街。印刷の歴史と同じ古さをもつといわれ、イギリスの中央紙、地方紙のほとんどがこの一帯に本社・支社を構えている。シティの西端にあり、街路名は、暗渠(あんきょ)化しているがいまもこの地区を流れるフリート川に由来する。17世紀当時の居酒屋、教会などの古い建物も残り、一番地のチャイルド銀行はロンドン最古の銀行を自称する。
