Huchel - Peter Huchel

German poet. He spent his childhood in a farming village near Berlin, and wrote few but excellent nature poems based on his original experiences with the local climate and farmers. He joined the army in 1940, and was taken prisoner of war in the Soviet Union in 1945. After the division of East and West Germany in 1949, he served as editor-in-chief of the East German magazine Sinn und Form (Meaning and Form) for 14 years, exploring traditional culture that transcended the systems of both East and West Germany, but his ideals were ultimately not accepted, and he retired to his hometown. In 1971, he finally defected to the West. His four books of poetry, including Boulevard, Boulevard (1963), are also heavily marked by a shadow of bitterness.

ドイツの詩人。少年期をベルリン近郊農村で過ごし、その風土と農民についての原体験をもとに、寡作だが優れた自然詩を書く。1940年従軍、45年ソ連で捕虜。49年の東西ドイツ分裂以降14年間、東ドイツの雑誌『ジン・ウント・フォルム』（意味と形式）の編集主幹として、東西両ドイツの体制を超えた伝統文化を探求したが、この理想が結局いれられず故郷に隠棲(いんせい)。71年ついに西側へ亡命した。『大通り、大通り』（1963）を含めた4冊の詩集にも苦渋の影が濃い。
