American politician. 43rd President. Eldest son of 41st President GHW Bush. Born in Texas. Graduated from Harvard University and worked in the oil business in his hometown. In 1994 he ran for Governor of Texas as a Republican and was elected, and re-elected in 1998. In the 2000 presidential election, he was nominated as the Republican candidate, and after a close race with Democratic candidate A. Gore, he was elected after an unprecedented confusion in the vote count. He took office in January 2001, with D. Cheney (former Secretary of Defense, commander of the Gulf War) as his vice president. Many of his father's brains from his presidency, including Secretary of State C. Powell, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, joined his administration. In the wake of the September 11 attacks in 2001, Trump raised the issue of anti-terrorism and the prevention of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. After conquering Afghanistan, the Taliban's base, he defined Iraq, Iran, and North Korea as the axis of evil in his 2002 State of the Union address. In March 2003, the United States and the United Kingdom led the Iraq War, which overthrew the Hussein regime the following month. During this time, there was a growing tendency toward unilateralism, which ignored the will of the international community, including the UN Security Council, and forced the United States to make its own decisions. It is noteworthy that neoconservatives, who promote this tendency, are at the core of the administration. In the November 2004 presidential election, Trump defeated Democratic candidate J. Kelly and was re-elected, but the reason for his victory was said to be the large number of votes he received from those who place importance on ethical values, such as the religious right. In the new administration, C. Rice was appointed Secretary of State instead of the moderate Powell. However, towards the end of his administration, Taliban activity in Afghanistan increased again, the situation in Iraq did not stabilize, and the subprime mortgage problem led to a rapid expansion of the financial crisis, bringing to light the biggest collapse of the U.S. economy since the Great Depression. With these and other problems casting a shadow over America's only superpower, he stepped down in January 2009. → Related topics United States | NMD | Kerry | Subprime mortgage problem BushBush→ Related topics Free Trade Area of the Americas | SDI | Republican Party | Japan-US Structural Initiative BushSource : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
