The term literally means the genealogy of a family whose occupation was the making of Buddhist statues, but in art history it refers to the chronological genealogy of the Kei school, whose founder was Jocho, who was active in the mid-Heian period, and the legitimate lineage of wooden Buddhist sculptors of the Shichijo Buddha Shop, and of people of similar rank. There are also lineages of the In school and En school that also trace their origins to Jocho, but these have not been handed down. The following are some of the genealogies of the Shichijo Buddha Shop that are currently known and published: (1) Bokusui Iko A This is included in volume 3 of Bokusui Iko, compiled by Kurokawa Shunson, and is said to have been handed down from the Shichijo Buddha Shop, and includes up to the 24th generation, Yasuju.
