Japanese: 物価統計 - ぶっかとうけい

It is a general term for statistical surveys aimed at measuring price fluctuations of goods and services traded in the market, and there are various types of price statistics with different survey subjects and price survey stages. In order to comprehensively grasp the fluctuations of prices collected based on such statistical surveys, a price index is created by specifying a base period and indexing it using a certain formula. Among the various price indexes, each with its own specific purpose of use, the most representative are the Consumer Price Index and the Wholesale Price Index.

市場で取引される商品･サービスの価格変動を測定することを目的とした統計調査の総称であり，調査対象，価格調査段階等を異にする各種の物価統計がある。こうした統計調査に基づき収集した価格について，その変動を総合的にとらえるため，基準時を特定し，一定の算式を用いて指数化したのが物価指数である。それぞれ固有の利用目的をもついろいろな物価指数のなかで，代表的なものとしては〈消費者物価指数〉と〈卸売物価指数〉とがある。
