One of the Tokugawa Fudai Daimyo. According to legend, the Akamatsu clan, descendants of Prince Tomohira, married the Kodama clan of the Musashi Shichito, and their descendants lived in Okuhira-go, Kanra County, Kozuke Province (Shimo Okuhira, Yoshii Town, Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture) and called themselves Okuhira. Around the early Muromachi period, Sadatoshi moved from there to Sakude, Shitara County, Mikawa Province (Shinshiro City, Aichi Prefecture). During the Sengoku period, they were called the Yamaga Sanboshu along with the Suganuma clan of Nagashino and Damine in the same county, and wielded great influence. The area borders both Totomi and Shinano provinces, and Sadamasa followed the Imagawa clan, but with Sadayoshi, the Tokugawa clan temporarily switched to the Takeda clan, and in 1573 (Tensho 1), it returned to the Tokugawa clan. At this time, Tokugawa Ieyasu sent a letter of oath to Sadayoshi and Nobumasa, promising to marry Nobumasa's eldest daughter, Kamehime, in preparation for the Takeda clan. Nobumasa defended Nagashino Castle from an attack by the Takeda clan in 1575, and continued to have many military achievements after that, receiving 30,000 koku of Obata in Kozuke Province in 1590 and 100,000 koku of Kano in Mino Province in 1601 (Keicho 6). After that, his descendants were transferred several times, and during the reign of Masashige, they were fixed at 100,000 koku in Nakatsu, Buzen Province. One of Nobumasa's sons, Tadaaki, was adopted by Ieyasu, changed his surname to Matsudaira, and became a feudal lord.
