Phalchan Kangri (mountain)

Japanese: ファルチャン･カンリ[山]（英語表記）Phalchan Kangri

A high peak belonging to the Baltoro Mustagh in the central Karakoram range. It rises on the northeast side of Concordia, the confluence of the two headwaters of the Baltoro Glacier, and its summit can be seen from about 50 km downstream. In 1892, the British explorer Conway named it Broad Peak after seeing its wide and imposing appearance, and it is now called Falchan Kanri, which has the same meaning in Baluchi. The ridgeline connecting the main peak (8,047 m) and the central peak (8,016 m) to the north forms the watershed with the Shaksgam River valley on the east, and is also the border between Pakistan and China.

カラコルム山脈の中央部バルトロ･ムスターグに属する高峰。バルトロ氷河2源流の合流点コンコルディアの北東側にそびえ，頂上は約50km下流から望見できる。1892年バルトロ氷河を探検したイギリス人コンウェーが幅が広く堂々たる姿を見て〈ブロード･ピークBroad Peak(広い峰)〉と命名し，現在はバルーチ語で同じ意味をもつファルチャン･カンリと呼ばれている。主峰8047mと北にある中央峰8016mを結ぶ稜線は東側のシャクスガム川渓谷との分水嶺であり，パキスタンと中国の国境線ともなっている。
