1906‐2000 One of the top leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Born in Gia Binh Province in central Vietnam to a high-ranking government official. After graduating from the prestigious Quoc Hoc School in Hue and receiving a colonial education in France in Hanoi, he traveled to Guangdong in 1925 and joined Ho Chi Minh. He joined the Vietnamese Youth Association of Revolutionary Comrades (the precursor to the Communist Party of Vietnam) founded by Ho, and thereafter devoted himself to the revolutionary movement. After the August Revolution of 1945, he consistently held key positions in the party and government, and within the party, he was elected a member of the Politburo four times in a row, from the 2nd National Congress in February 1951 to the 5th Congress (March 1982), and within the government, he served as Prime Minister from September 1955 until retiring in 1987.
