The capital of the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture in the northwest of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. A city located in the fertile Ili Basin in the upper reaches of the Ili River. Also called Khurja. It was developed as a strategic location on the northern route of the Tianshan Mountains. It distributes wheat, barley, and livestock products.
