Dainihonshiryo - Dainihonshiryo

Japanese:
Dainihonshiryo - Dainihonshiryo

The most comprehensive and basic collection of historical materials in chronological order for Japanese history. Compiled by the Historiographical Institute of the University of Tokyo. Following on from the Imperially commissioned Rikkokushi national histories, this is a chronological compilation of historical materials from 887 (Ninna 3) to 1867 (Keio 3), the year of the Meiji Restoration, with a focus on political history. Events in Japanese history are arranged in chronological order, with a brief summary of the contents presented, followed by as many related materials as possible. This is the most basic collection of historical materials for understanding the flow of political history, and at the end of the year, a section called miscellaneous records is included, containing historical materials related to society, economy, culture, religion, etc., which is useful. The biographical materials compiled in connection with the death records are also important. The entire collection is divided into 16 volumes, and publication began in 1900 (Meiji 33) as a national project. The main text of Volumes 1 (887-986) and 4 (1185-1221) has been completed, and the compilation of supplementary appendices is underway. Volumes 2, 3, and 5-12 are currently being compiled and published. For Volume 13 onwards, which covers the period from 1651 (Keian 4), basic materials are being collected and the data is being organized and made public. For the unpublished parts, 17 volumes of the "Shiryo Soran" have been published, and although it contains some errors, it can provide clues for research.
