1479‐1555 Juana la loca, popularly known as the Madwoman, was the second daughter of the Catholic Kings of Spain and the mother of the first Spanish Habsburg king, Charles I (Charles V). After the deaths of her elder sister and brother, she inherited the thrones of Castile and Aragon (reigned 1504-55), but her jealousy of her husband Philip, who was constantly having affairs with women, led to mental disorders and her father Ferdinand deemed her incapable of governing. After the death of her husband, her condition worsened, and after 1509 she shut herself up in the castle of Tordesillas, where she died.
