Injection metallurgy

This is a metallurgical operation in which gas or powder is injected into molten pig iron or steel to stir the bath and refine it. The injection of desulfurizing agents and dephosphorizing agents in molten pig iron pretreatment, the injection of oxygen in bottom-blowing converters and AOD furnaces, which are one of the stainless steelmaking processes, and the injection of inert gases, lime powder, calcium alloys, etc. in combined blowing in converters and various ladle refining processes play a major role in improving steel quality and shortening refining times, and have come to occupy an important position in the current steelmaking process.

溶銑あるいは溶鋼中にガスや粉体を吹き込むことにより，浴の攪拌（かくはん）や精錬を行う冶金操作をいう。溶銑予備処理における脱硫剤，脱リン剤の吹込み，底吹転炉やステンレス製鋼法の一つであるAOD炉における酸素の吹込み，さらには転炉の複合吹錬や各種取鍋（とりなべ）精錬における不活性ガスまたは石灰粉，カルシウム合金などの吹込みは，鋼の品質向上，精錬時間の短縮の面で大きな役割を果たし，現在の製鋼プロセスにおいて重要な位置を占めるようになった。
