Indian medicine, systematized as Ayurveda (science of life), mainly uses herbs to treat illnesses. The three major classical medical texts that discuss the Ayurvedic system as a whole are the Charaka Samhita of the Atreya school, which spread in northwest India, the Sushruta Samhita of the Dhanvantari school, which is based in Middle East India, and the Ashtāngahridaya Samhita (Compilation of the Eight Departments of Medicine), which compiled these two texts in the 7th century. Since then, it has developed by incorporating Tibetan medicine and yoga, and since the 17th century it has been strongly influenced by Western medicine. Today, Ayurvedic medical qualifications are recognized, and a research system has been established. The basic theory is the Tridosha theory, which states that illness is caused by an imbalance of the doshas, which mean defects or impurities, and that the basis of treatment is to restore the balance of the doshas and allow the major organs of the body to function normally. →Related topicsHolistic medicine Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
