787‐813 The sixth caliph of the Abbasid dynasty. Reigned from 809 to 813. As his mother was the niece of the second caliph, Mansur, he was entitled to the throne before his half-brother, Abd Allah (later the seventh caliph, Ma'mun). After ascending to the throne, he broke the agreement and named his son Musa as his successor instead of Ma'mun, which led to a strained relationship between the two and civil war. The capital Baghdad was besieged by the army of Ma'mun, which fell in 813 and Amin was killed. He achieved no notable accomplishments during his reign.
