Held his first solo exhibition in 1947, and won the Critic's Prize the following year. With subjects such as clowns, still lifes, and cityscapes, he expressed the inner passions, tragedies, and anxieties of human beings through sharp lines and simple colors. He is a representative painter of the 20th century French figurative school. He committed suicide in 1999. His representative work is Flagellation (1951).
