[Died] December 2, 1694. Marseille. French sculptor, painter, and architect. From 1640 to 1643, he worked as a pupil of P. Cortona, decorating the ceilings of Palazzo Barberini in Rome and Palazzo Pitti in Florence. From 1643 to 1656, he was mainly active as a painter in Marseille and Toulon. In 1659, he was invited to Paris, where he produced works at the request of Louis XIV's minister, Fouquet, but after Fouquet's downfall, he worked as a sculptor in Genoa. From 1669 onwards, he lived in Toulon and Marseille. He was known as the most distinctive sculptor of the French Baroque period. His main works include the marble group "Milo of Crotona" (1671-84, Louvre Museum), which decorated the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, and the relief "Alexander and Diogenes" (1671-93, same museum).

フランスの彫刻家，画家，建築家。 1640～43年に P.コルトナの弟子としてローマのバルベリーニ宮，フィレンツェのパラッツォ・ピッティの天井装飾に従事。 43～56年はマルセイユ，ツーロンで主として画家として活躍。 59年パリに招かれ，ルイ 14世の宰相フーケの注文で作品を制作したが，フーケの失脚後はジェノバで彫刻家として活躍。 69年以後はツーロンとマルセイユに居住。フランスのバロック期の最も個性的な彫刻家として知られた。主要作品はベルサイユ宮殿の庭園を飾った大理石像群『クロトナのミロ』 (1671～84，ルーブル美術館) ，浮彫『アレクサンダーとディオゲネス』 (71～93，同) 。
