Kamigata merchants

Economically, Kamigata was the center of production and distribution in the national market, and played an important role in supporting the Edo economy. Many Kamigata merchants also had stores in Edo. Culture also had a unique style, with jiuta (traditional Japanese songs), ukiyo-e (traditional Japanese woodblock prints), and joruri (traditional Japanese puppet theatre), all of which were distinguished from Edo's by the terms Kamigata-e and Kamigata-joruri.
