Hino

Japanese: 日野 - ひの
Hino

This area is in the eastern part of Kyoto City's Fushimi Ward, and in the southern part of the Yamashina Basin. It is known as Hino Yakushi, and is home to Hokaiji Temple, which was built by Hino Sukenari in 1051 (Eisho 6). In the mountains behind it is a stone monument bearing the name Chomei Hojoseki, and it is said to be the place where Kamo no Chomei retired in his later years and wrote "Hojoki." The Kyoto Pharmaceutical University Medicinal Plant Garden is also located here.
