Polish author and playwright. Known for his many talents, he was active not only in writing about art theory and philosophy, but also as a painter and photographer. He was a leader of the avant-garde art movement between the two world wars. He left behind many plays and novels that criticized modern civilization. He committed suicide when the German and Soviet armies invaded Poland during World War II. His representative works include the novel Unsatisfied (1930) and the play The Shoemakers (1934).
