Also called a trapezoid. If the opposite sides of a quadrilateral are a , b and c , d , a and b are parallel to each other, and c and d are not parallel to each other. In this case, a and b are called the base of the trapezoid, and c and d are called the legs of the trapezoid. If the legs c = d , it is called an isosceles trapezoid. The distance h between a and b is called the height of the trapezoid. If the length of the line segment connecting the midpoints of c and d is m , then m is parallel to a and b , and m = ( a + b )/2. The area is given by S = h · ( a + b )/2 = mh .

梯形 (ていけい) ともいう。四辺形のそれぞれの対辺を a ，b と c ，d とし，a ，b は互いに平行で，c ，d が互いに平行でないものをいう。この場合，a ，b を台形の底といい，c ，d を台形の脚という。脚が c＝d の場合は等脚台形という。 a ，b 間の距離 h は台形の高さと呼ばれる。いま，c ，d の中点を結んだ線分の長さを m とすれば，m は a ，b に平行で，m＝(a＋b)/2 となる。また面積は S＝h・(a＋b)/2＝mh で与えられる。
