Furyumono floats that appear at the festival (May 3rd to 5th) at Kamine Shrine in Miyata-cho, Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture. They are also called Kasaboko. They are designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the national government. Karakuri puppet floats are common in the Chubu region, but the Furyumono floats in Hitachi are unparalleled in terms of the shape and grandeur of their size. There are four floats, all of which are huge, with a front mountain about 4m wide and 9m high, and a back mountain about 15m high. The front mountain is a five-story (six-story for the floats) castle tower-style building, and each story has a karahafu roof. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
