French anatomist and physiologist. He studied medicine in Lyon, Paris, and later lectured in anatomy, physiology, and surgery in Paris. He is considered the founder of histology, and was the first to use the word tissu (tissue) and to have divided the body into 21 tissues. He did not approve of the use of microscopes and took a vitalist stance. His main work was General Anatomy. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
