Hijikata clan

Japanese: 土方氏 - ひじかたうじ
Hijikata clan
A feudal lord of the early modern period. They were part of the Seiwa Genji clan and the Uno clan. Their ancestor was Taro Sueharu, and his descendant Hikosaburo Shinharu served Oda Nobunaga. His son Katsuhisa served Oda Nobukatsu, who gave him the given name Kiji for his contribution in suppressing the Iga uprising. In 1583 (Tensho 11), he was promoted to Junior Fifth Rank. After Nobukatsu's downfall, he served Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but in 1599 (Keicho 4) he was exiled to Hitachi-Ota on suspicion of assassinating Tokugawa Ieyasu. He was pardoned by Ieyasu during the Battle of Sekigahara and achieved military merit. Katsuhisa's son, Katsuhisa, ruled over Ishizaki in Noto, and the family continued for three generations, but was cut off due to a crime.
