Acceptance of a bill of exchange. This is a bill act recognized as a way to determine the status of the payor as a debtor in a bill of exchange. It does not exist in promissory notes or checks. The word "acceptance" or other words of equivalent meaning must be written on the face of the bill, and the payor must sign it (Article 25, Paragraph 1, Bills of Exchange Act). By accepting, the payor of a bill of exchange becomes the acceptor, i.e., the principal debtor. This acceptor assumes an absolute and definite obligation to pay the bill amount to the holder (Articles 28, 78, Paragraph 1).

為替手形の引受け。為替手形における支払人の債務者としての地位を確定する方法として認められた手形行為。約束手形や小切手には存しない。手形面上に「引受け」そのほか，これと同一の意義をもつ文字を記載し，支払人が署名しなければならない (手形法 25条1項) 。為替手形の支払人は，引受けによって，引受人すなわち主たる債務者となる。この引受人は，手形所持人に対して手形金額につき，絶対的，確定的の支払義務を負担する (28，78条1項) 。
