Higashisefuri [village] - Higashisefuri

Japanese: 東脊振[村] - ひがしせふり

A village in Kanzaki County, northeastern Saga Prefecture. Population 6,053 (1995). It borders Fukuoka Prefecture to the north, separated by the Sefuri Mountains. The hills that extend like a tongue from the foot of the mountains are home to Yayoi period ruins, ancient tombs, and the remains of an abandoned temple from the Nara period. Rice is the main crop, but vegetables, mandarin oranges, and livestock are also cultivated, and strawberries are also produced in abundance. An industrial complex has been developed in the southeast. The Higashi Sefuri Interchange on the Kyushu Cross-Island Expressway is located here. The area around Ryosenji Temple, located in Sakamoto at the southern foot of Mt. Sengoku (528m) in the northern part of the village, is said to be the place where Eisai, who returned from Song in 1191 (Kenkyu 2), first cultivated tea in Japan.

佐賀県北東部，神埼郡の村。人口6053(1995)。北は脊振山地を境に福岡県に接する。山麓から舌状にのびた丘陵地には弥生時代遺跡や古墳，奈良時代の廃寺跡などがある。米作を主体とするが，野菜，ミカンの栽培，畜産なども行われ，イチゴの産も多い。南東部には工業団地が造成されている。九州横断自動車道の東脊振インターチェンジがある。村域北部の千石山(528m)南麓の坂本にあった霊仙（りようせん）寺付近は，1191年(建久2)宋から帰った栄西が日本最初の茶樹栽培をした地とされている。
