Hiokibe

Japanese: 日置部 - ひおきべ

It can also be read as "Hikibe" or "Hekibe". There is a theory that Heki means "household" and refers to the people in charge of households (Ban Nobutomo, Kurita Hiroshi), another theory that refers to the people in charge of sun invitations and sun readings at the Imperial Court (Yanagita Kunio, Orikuchi Shinobu), and there is also the view that they were mainly engaged in divination and calendar methods and solar rituals. On the other hand, it has been pointed out that while they were involved in Shinto rituals and rituals, they were also involved in the handicraft production of these items. Originally, the Heki clan was one of the Naoi clans of the Tonomori Department of the Imperial Household Ministry, and their base was in Heki-go, Kuzukami County, Yamato Province, and it is thought that they were related to the Kamo clan, which was also a Naoi clan in terms of geographical ties and duties.

〈ひきべ〉〈へきべ〉などとも読む。日置を戸置（へき）の意に解し，民戸をつかさどるものとする説(伴信友，栗田寛)，日招きや宮廷の日読（かよみ）をつかさどるものとする説(柳田国男，折口信夫)，さらには卜占暦法を主とし太陽祭祀に従事する者という見解も出された。一方，神事や祭祀にかかわり合いながら，それらの手工業生産にも当たる性格も指摘されてきた。　もともと日置氏は宮内省主殿寮殿部（とのもり）の負名氏（なおいのうじ）の一つで，本拠は大和国葛上郡日置郷にあり，地縁的にも職掌的にも同じ負名氏の鴨氏と類縁の関係にあったと考えられている。
