Xuán yán shī (English: profound poetry)

Xuán yán shī (English: profound poetry)
This refers to poetry that was popular from the end of the Western Jin Dynasty to the beginning of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in the early 4th century, and is mainly based on Laozi and Zhuangzi ideology. The Western Jin Dynasty was destroyed by civil war and the Five Barbarians and Sixteen Kingdoms Rebellion, and the Eastern Jin Dynasty was established by moving south. Many intellectuals were detached from the turbulent reality, preferring clear talk (also called profound speech), and were immersed in the Laozi and Zhuangzi ideology, and their poetry was also enthusiastic about expressing nihilism in a thousand poems. In his Preface to the Poems, Zhong Yuan criticized them, saying that "the logic is merely words, and there is little flavor in them." Poets include Guo Pu, Yuan Hong, and Sun Zhuo, but Guo Pu is unique and his Poems of Visiting Immortals are excellent.
