It is leathery or corky, with thin flesh and about 3-5 mm thick. It is bright scarlet in color, similar to a mushroom. This fungus is tropical and is widely distributed from the tropics to temperate zones. It is a harmful fungus that causes white rot on useful wood. 担子菌類ヒダナシタケ目サルノコシカケ科。広葉樹の枯れ枝などにつく。傘は柄を欠き半円形ないし扇形をしており,直径3~10cm。革質またはコルク質で肉が薄く,厚さは3~5mmほどである。色は鮮かな緋色でシュタケに似ている。この菌は熱帯系のもので,熱帯から温帯にかけて広く分布する。有用木材に白腐れを起す有害菌である。
