Pantaleoni, Maffeo
Born: July 2, 1857 in Frascati, near Rome
Died October 29, 1924. Italian economist and politician of the Lausanne School of Milan. After graduating from the University of Rome, he studied at universities in Venice, Paris, Naples, and other cities, and became a professor at his alma mater in 1902. During that time, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1900, retired for a time, but returned to politics after World War I, helped the Italian Fascist movement, and became one of the first Fascist senators. As an economist, he began with national income accounting and tax issues, and in his main work, Principi di economia pura (1889), he based his explanation of economic principles on marginal utility theory and provided a unified explanation of economic principles in a form similar to general equilibrium theory, contributing to the spread of Walrasian theory in Italy. He also published papers on business cycle theory, and can be considered one of the pioneers of modern dynamic theory.
