Khansā' (English spelling)

An ancient Arabian female memorial poet. Her nickname, Khansa, means "wild cow." She wrote a memorial poem for two murdered brothers, and called for the tribe to exact revenge. She became a Muslim and went to see the Prophet Muhammad, who is said to have been deeply moved by her poem. She sent her four sons to fight the Persian army, and is said to have lost everything but did not grieve.

古代アラビアの女流追悼詩人。ハンサーとは「野生の牝牛(めうし)」の意であだ名である。殺された2人の兄弟の追悼詩をつくり、部族が報復を遂げるべきことを訴えた。イスラム教徒となり預言者ムハンマド（マホメット）のところへいくが、彼は彼女の詩にひどく感動したといわれる。4人の息子をペルシア軍との戦いに参加させ、すべてを失ったが悲しまなかったと伝えられる。
