A method of making slivers by spreading a tow (a bundle of continuous fibers) of chemical fibers into a strip and moving it between several pairs of pressurized rollers, randomly cutting the fibers without disturbing their alignment, and then shrinking them to make slivers. A tow of about 300,000 to 2,000,000 denier is first heated and stretched, and then cut in two or three steps, each time by using different roller surface speeds. This cutting method is called Parlock stretch-breaking, and the process of spinning the slivers into yarn is called Parlock spinning. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
