A perennial plant of the Rubiaceae family. It is commonly found in forests in northern Honshu and northward. The stem is erect, 10-30 cm tall, four-sided, hairless and smooth. The leaves are thin and broadly lanceolate, with 8 pieces arranged in whorls at each node along with stipules of the same shape as the leaves. In summer, an inflorescence is produced at the top of the stem, bearing small white, funnel-shaped flowers with a diameter of about 3 mm. The fruit is cnidular. アカネ科の多年草。本州北部以北の林間によくみられる。茎は直立し高さ 10~30cm,4稜があり無毛でなめらかである。葉は薄質の広披針形で,葉と同形の托葉とともに各節に8片ずつ輪生する。夏に,茎頂に花序を生じ,白色漏斗状花冠の径 3mmほどの小花をつける。果実には鉤毛がある。
