Etzel, PJ - Etzel

…In England, G. Marshall founded the Juvenile Magazine (1788), and in the 19th century, excellent children's magazines such as The Children's Friend (1825-1860s), Boy's Own Magazine (1855-1874), and The Boy's Own Paper (1879-1912) were launched and continued to be published. Following this example, France published many children's magazines, but the most famous was Le Magasin d'Éducation et de Récréation (Magazine of Education and Recreation) published in 1864 by the famous editor Pierre Jules Hetzel, in which such great authors as Balzac, Daudet, Dumas, Hugo, and Verne published masterpieces for children that will be remembered for generations to come. In America, the weekly children's magazine The Youth's Companion (1827-1929) is famous.
