Cyclo

Japanese: チクロ
Cyclo
A common name for sodium and calcium salts of cyclamic acid (cyclohexylsulfamic acid). A type of synthetic sweetener. Colorless to white crystals or crystalline powder, soluble in water, 30 to 50 times sweeter than sugar, and heat stable. In Japan, the former was approved as a food additive in 1956 and the latter in 1961, and they were widely used, but large amounts were considered to be liable to cause internal organ damage and cancer, and their use was banned in 1969. Subsequent follow-up tests showed no evidence of carcinogenicity.
