This post station was located in Aso-gun, Shimotsuke Province, in what is now Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, on the Nikko Reiheishi Highway. According to the "General Register of Post Stations and Villages," it was 27 cho (100 m2) from Tenmyo-juku to the west, 3 ri (1.5 km2) from Yanada-juku (present-day Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture) to the west, and 2 ri (1.5 km2) from Tomita-juku (present-day Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture) to the east. There was another post station, Horibe-cho, to the west, and together with this town, Inubuse-juku was formed. In 1764, the Reiheishi Highway came under the control of the road magistrate, and in 1766, Josuke-go village was established. Because of its close proximity to Tenmei-juku, the two posts were treated as one post station for horse and man relay, and by the end of the Tenpo era (1830-1844), relays were only provided to Yanada-juku. In 1830, new inns selling food were approved for operation, and began business the following year. However, in 1833, the Sukego villages of Tenmei and Inubuse lodgings appealed for the abolition of the new inns and prostitutes, and the abolition movement continued in the surrounding villages thereafter. → Related topics Tenmei Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
