Born: January 3, 1901 in Munich [Died] May 22, 1975. American historian. His father was German-American. After graduating from the University of Munich, he entered academia, but was pursued by the Nazis in 1933 and moved to the United States in 1937. He worked for the U.S. Army Intelligence during World War II, and after the war he got a job at a government agency, but resigned in 1949 in protest against the Cold War. Since then, he has written books as an independent historian. His main works include Imperialismus vor 1914 (1951) and Why dictators? (54).
