Ḥamdān Qarmaṭ

Japanese: ハムダーン･カルマト（英語表記）Ḥamdān Qarmaṭ

A man who is considered to be the founder of the Qarmatians, a branch of Islam, around 899. He was an Ismaili activist and head of a secret organization of the sect in Sawad. Around 890, he established a hideout called dār al-hijra near Kufa, and used it as a base for violent activities. Around 899, when the mainstream of Ismaili sect recognized the family of the future Fatimid caliph as Imam, he did not recognize it, rebelled against the mainstream, and disappeared. At this time, Ismaili activists who supported him developed a movement separate from the mainstream, but they are generally called Qarmatians.

イスラムの一派カルマト派の創始者とみなされた人物。イスマーイール派の活動家で，サワードの同派の秘密組織の責任者であった。890年ごろクーファの近くに〈隠れ館dār al‐hijra〉をつくり，そこを根拠地として暴力的な活動を行う。899年ごろ，イスマーイール派の主流が後のファーティマ朝カリフの家系をイマームとして認めたとき，これを認めず主流に反旗を翻して姿を消した。このとき，彼を支持したイスマーイール派の活動家は，主流とは別な運動を展開するが，彼らは一般にカルマト派と呼ばれることになる。
