A river in northwestern North America. It originates in the Yukon Territory in Canada, flows almost westward across Alaska, and empties into the Bering Sea. It is 3018 km long. There is good water transport from the mouth of the river to Dawson. The entire river freezes over from October to June. Gold and silver are mined in the river basin.
