Naniwateikomakichi - Naniwateikomakichi

Japanese:
Naniwateikomakichi - Naniwateikomakichi

A rakugo performer. His real name was Sakurai Komakichi. He is also said to have been a disciple of Naniwatei Tatsunosuke, a Nagoya saimon performer. He went to Edo during the late Edo period and discovered the sekkyo joruri performer Higurashi Ryuboku. He was encouraged to use a sekkyobushi-style shamisen as an interlude in his saimon, and with the help of Togawa Teru on the accompanying shamisen, he is said to have devised 18 different yakubushi. After the Meiji Restoration, he was the first in Tokyo to put up a sign for "Ozashiki Naniwabushi" and became the first Naniwabushi storyteller to distinguish himself from street performance saimon.
