Lake Kabana ruins - Lake Kabana ruins
An archaeological site from the early Jomon period located in Ueno, Sakashita-cho, Ena-gun, Gifu Prefecture. It is located on a plateau at an altitude of 560m, on the eastern slope of a tongue-shaped hillock that protrudes from the mountains to the south. It was discovered during construction of an embankment for Lake Kabanoko, an artificial irrigation lake. The site is divided into three sites with different elevations, but stone tools are scattered over an even wider area. Artifacts have been collected since 1954, and trial excavations were carried out in 1956 and 1957, mainly at the central site 1. As a result, two cultural layers with different strata were identified, and the lower group of artifacts was classified as Lake Kabanoko I, and the upper group of artifacts was classified as Lake Kabanoko II.
