A general term for the Hatsusegawa Valley in the eastern part of Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture. It is also written as Hatsuse or Hase. It is now pronounced "Hase." Located at a strategic point on the Ise Kaido road connecting Yamato and the eastern provinces, it was developed early on and is said to have been the site of Emperor Yuryaku's Totsu-no-Asakura Palace and Emperor Buretsu's Totsu-no-Namiki Palace. Hase-go appears in the Wamyōshō and belonged to Shikinokami County. The areas of Jionji and Wakimoto near Mount Miwa at the entrance to the valley were included in the ancient Shiki region, and are thought to have been located at the eastern end of the Yamato region in the narrow sense.
