Also known as leukocyte chemotaxis. This phenomenon of leukocytes migrating toward chemical stimuli (leukocyte chemotactic factors) was discovered by T. Leber in 1888. Chemotactic factors are found at the site of inflammatory reactions and are derived from bacteria, complement, immunoglobulins, etc. When these factors are applied, leukocytes begin to move toward them, but the speed of movement is the same as when the factors are not applied. There are differences in chemotaxis among leukocytes, with neutrophils and eosinophils showing greater chemotaxis, followed by monocytes, but this phenomenon is not seen in lymphocytes. 白血球走化性ともいう。白血球が化学的刺激物質(白血球走化性因子)に向かって遊走していく現象で,1888年にレーバーT.Leberによって明らかにされた。走化性因子は炎症反応の場に見いだされるが,細菌,補体,免疫グロブリンなどに由来する。これら因子を作用させると,白血球はそちらに向かって移動を開始するが,移動速度は因子を作用させない場合と同じである。白血球の中でも走化性に差があり,好中球や好酸球は大きく,単球がそれに次ぐが,リンパ球にはこの現象はみられない。
