Born on March 8, 1875. Deployed as commander of the 9th Division during the Shanghai Incident in 1932. In the same year, he lost a leg to a bomb thrown by Korean independence activist Yun Bong-gil at the Emperor's Day celebrations. In 1936, he became an army general. In 1939, he became the commander of the Kwantung Army. In 1949, he was placed in the reserves due to his responsibility for Japan's defeat at the Nomonhan Incident.
