1640‐1711 An Islamic scholar from the late Ming to early Qing dynasties in China. His pen name was Wen Bing, and his pen name was Zhong Xiu. He was from Jinshi (now Baoshan) County, Yunnan Province. Of Hui descent, he claimed to be a descendant of Muhammad, and loved learning from an early age. He was selected for the Zhongshu during the reign of the Yongli Emperor of the Southern Ming Dynasty (reigned 1647-61). After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, he pursued reading and education, and in 1669, the 8th year of the Kangxi era during the Qing Dynasty, he went to Beijing and associated with the royal family, but when he returned home he lectured his students on the study of the mind and spirit. His work, Qingzhen Zhinan (10 volumes, 1683), is an introductory book that interprets Islamic doctrine from the perspectives of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
